Introducing Solids - Primary Prevention Program

 

Facilitator - Rosemary Duffield APD (dietitian)

Goal of the program
to reduce rates of overweight and obesity amongst children and
thus reduce rates of chronic disease

Objectives of the program
1.delay introduction of solids until approx 6 months of age
2. reduce introduction of energy dense beverages in infants
3. improve infant satiety/hunger recognition by parents and carers

Infant nutrition education is provided for first time parents during group attendance at
Maternal and Child Health Centre's in Cohuna and Kerang.

Infant nutrition education is provided within the level 3 Child Care Certificate
course conducted at the Kerang Learning Centre

Infant nutrition education is provided at professional development meetings of
Maternal and Child Health nurses within the shire of Gannawarra

Individual nutrition assessment and education is available for parents and carers of infants with overweight and obesity
